Steven D. Howarth, 55, of Attleboro, died on June 21 at New England Sinai hospital with his daughter and wife holding his hands and his brothers and sisters by his side, following an heroic year-long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Rebecca Marshall-Howarth to whom he was married on October 15, 1983. Born in New Bedford, MA, on January 26, 1957, he was a son of the late John P. and Gertrude (Bariteau) Howarth. Raised and educated in Fairhaven, MA. Mr. Howarth moved to the City of Attleboro in 1985. Mr. Howarth enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard, and all Boston sports, but most of all,he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as the best father and husband anyone could ever ask for, as well as a wonderful brother, uncle, friend, co-worker, and (according to a neighbor) the unofficial “mayor” of Robin’s Nest. He was always there with whatever you needed – a helping hand; advice with what seemed like unlimited knowledge, innovation, and talent; a smile; a sillysong; or, sometimes when it was most appropriate, a sarcastic remark. He had an unparalleled work ethic. He will be missed and those of us who were close to him are all better people because we knew him. His spirit and positive attitude during his illness were remarkable. Throughout the ordeal, he displayed dignity, strength, and determination. One of the doctors said he was inspirational. In addition to his wife of28 years, he leaves his daughter,Stefanie A. Howarth of Attleboro, who has been the love of his life since the day she was born. He had six siblings, John P. Howarth Jr. and his wife Cristina Cordoba of Acushnet, MA; Susan Faria and her husband Robert of Fairhaven, MA; Peter Howarth and his wife Sharon of Fairhaven, MA; Michael Howarth of Bismark, North Dakota; Janet Hemingway and her husband Thomas of Fairhaven, MA; and Lisa Moniz and her husband Kenneth of Fairhaven, MA.
