Stella (Stanek) Borowiec

Stella (Stanek) Borowiec, 89, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Overlook Masonic Health Center. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter J. Borowiec, Sr. and sisters, Stefanie Pabis and Veronica Buba. A lifelong New Bedford resident, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Bieda) Stanek. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Mrs. Borowiec graduated from U Mass Dartmouth and received her Master's Degree from Bridgewater State University. She was employed for over 25 years at Fairhaven High School as a teacher and Business Dept. Chair. She was the director of Adult Basic Education in Fairhaven, and taught at Tabor Academy and Fisher Junior College. She was a member of the OLPH Society, the Holy Rosary Society, the Polish National Alliance Council 81, Secretary of P.N.A. Lodge 536, the Polish Women's Business and Professional Club, the Friends of Poland, N.E.A., Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Bristol County Retired Educator's Association. She was an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church community, giving of her time to help at many church functions. Mrs. Borowiec leaves 4 children, Peter J. Borowiec, Jr. and his wife, Sandra of Princeton, Robert Yablonskie and his wife, Mary-Alice of Milton, Ann Koczera and her husband, Robert of New Bedford, and Cynthia Rawson and her husband, James of Dudley; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral Mass will be at 10 A.M., Wednesday in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, North Front St., New Bedford. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Stella loved gardening. In lieu of cut flowers, donations toward a living memorial planting are encouraged. Donations can also be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance or the charity of one's choice.
