Peter J. Borowiec

NEW BEDFORD -- Peter J. Borowiec, Sr., 83, of New Bedford, died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Stella M. (Stanek) Borowiec, his wife of 55 years, and son of the late Thomas and Helen (Pietras) Borowiec. Born in Chicopee, he had lived in New Bedford for the past 60 years. He was formerly employed as an industrial arts teacher at Fairhaven High School, and prior to that, he had worked at Morse Twist Drill and J.C. Rhodes in New Bedford. During World War II, he worked at the U.S. Naval Base in Newport making torpedoes. He was a graduate of Chicopee High School, Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute and Fitchburg State College. Mr. Borowiec was a member of the Polish National Alliance, the Friends of Poland, St. Casimir Senior Citizens, Dartmouth Senior Citizens, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Bristol County Teachers Association. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church where he served as an usher and bingo worker, and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Senior Citizens group. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Peter J. Borowiec of Princeton and Robert B. Yablonskie of Milton; two daughters, Ann B. Koczera of New Bedford, and Cynthia A. Rawson of Dudley; a brother, Edward T. Borowiec, retired fire chief of Chicopee; two sisters, Jane Konderwicz of Ludlow and Jennie Maziarz of Chicopee; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Stanley Borowiec, Frank Borowiec, Leo Borowiec, Michael "Mickey" Borowiec and Pauline Maziarz. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
