Fairhaven High School Educator and Class 1976 Guidance Councilor

Miss. Virginia I. Kowal, 85, of Fairhaven passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday, April 10, 2022. Born in Central Falls, RI, daughter of the late Frederick and Isabel K. (Wlodyka) Kowal, she lived most of her life in Fairhaven and was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New Bedford. Virginia was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and received her BA from UMass Amherst and her MA from Rhode Island College. She was a school teacher from 1959-1979 at Fairhaven High School and from 1980-2001 at New Bedford Regional Vocational High School. Virginia was an active member of her church and volunteered at all the functions. She loved music and enjoyed singing and was a member of the Stetsonares. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling and visited Poland, Hawaii, Alaska and many other areas of the country. She was also a member of the MA Teachers Association. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother, Joseph F. Kowal and his wife Jean of Fairhaven; their children, Jason Kowal and his wife Kristi of New Bedford and Joy Meyers of Blossburg, PA; her great nieces and nephews, Remington, Jarrod, Cody, Arianna, James, Isabella and Joseph and great, great nieces and nephew Morghan, Mileena and Kris. Calling hours are Friday, April 22, 2022 from 4-7pm in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven. Her interment will be private.
