Matthew (Butch) Demers

MARINA, Calf. -- Mathew "Butch" Demers, 47, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, after a short illness. He was the husband of Suwannee "Sandy" Demers. Born and raised in Fairhaven, Mass., the son of Janet Demers of New Bedford, Mass., and the late Robert Demers, he graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1976. He settled in Monterey at the end of his Coast Guard duty, living in the area for the past 28 years. He was the food service director for Meals on Wheels, Pacific Grove, for eight years, and more recently worked at the Defense Language Institute. He thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of preparing dinner for "the Mrs." at Pebble Beach. He enjoyed being with family and friends. He will be remembered for being kind, gentle and non-judgmental and for his great sense of humor. His interests included hiking, music, reading, traveling, and most of all, the Red Sox. Survivors include his widow; his mother; two stepsons, Thant and Thanit Rattanapunlop of Thailand; a brother, Robert of Dedham, Mass.; a sister, Sharon Cardoza of New Bedford; a niece and two nephews; two great-nieces; and his cat, Larry.
