Susan Murray

Susan joined Langrock Sperry & Wool in 1984 after clerking for the Hon. Justice William Hill of the Vermont Supreme Court. Susan concentrates in family law, appellate practice, and estate planning. She has briefed and argued leading family law cases in the Vermont Supreme Court, and handles divorces involving complex financial issues and extensive marital assets as well as more straightforward divorce matters. Susan also handles adoptions, prenuptial agreements, and parentage cases. She has been recognized as a leading family law attorney in The Best Lawyers in America. Susan also works with clients on estate planning issues, helping them prepare the financial and medical documents they need in the event of disability or death. Susan has an active practice in the area of gay and lesbian family law, including co-parenting, surrogacy, and donor contracts, co-ownership agreements, planning for death and disability, and all manner of civil union issues. She has been involved in a number of leading cases, including the so-called same-sex marriage case, Baker v. State of Vermont, and was instrumental in lobbying for the passage of Vermont's civil union law. She is an officer and board member of Vermonters for Civil Unions and the Vermont Fund for Families. When not practicing law, Susan enjoys hiking with her dogs and working in her garden while listening to the Red Sox on the radio.
