Raymond Canastra

Raymond and Richard Canastra of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, established the Whaling City Seafood Display Auction in 1994. Since establishment, the Whaling City Seafood Display Auction has become the seafood auction for the port of New Bedford and Southern New England. Prior to the establishment of the seafood display auction, the market for the purchase and sale of fresh fish in New Bedford was inefficient, with transactions proving difficult for both buyers and sellers. The Canastra's auction changed this, providing an orderly open market allowing fishermen exposure to fair market prices for their product and buyers access to more predictable supplies of seafood.

Update May 2008 - Richard and Raymond Canastra principals of the “Whaling City Seafood Display Auction” (WCSDA) in New Bedford, are delighted to announce that we have recently established the Boston Seafood Display Auction, Inc. (BSDA), which will serve as a companion company to WCSDA. It will provide a real time internet seafood display auction (Display Auction) on the Boston waterfront to locally capture the increasing volume of wholesale seafood being transported through Logan Airport and landed in the Port of Boston. However most of the fish displayed in Boston will be trucked in from other ports such as Gloucester, Provincetown, Chatham, Point Judith RI., New Hampshire New York and Maine. We envision that it will also provide an international marketplace housed in Boston for the wholesale distribution, purchase and sale of seafood. BSDA will be operating at 8 Sea Food Way in the Marine Industrial Park and opening April 14 2008.-Congratulations Ray & Jeff~staff.
